History
Thailand was known as Siam during the early 1900s. It joined World War I on the side of the Allies in 1917, sending troops to help in Europe.
During World War II, Thailand was forced to sign a treaty with Japan. This led to Thailand declaring war on the United States and the United Kingdom, though the Thai ambassador in Washington refused to deliver the message.
After the war, Thailand became a key ally to the United States during the Cold War. They helped fight against the spread of communism in the region. Thailand also sent soldiers to help during the Vietnam War to support their allies.
Today, Thailand remains an important nation in Asia. It works to keep peace with its neighbors while managing its own government and growing economy.
