History
The Black Panther Division was formed to continue the work started by the Queen's Cobras. When the smaller unit returned home, Thailand sent this larger division to maintain its commitment to the war in Vietnam. They arrived in 1968 and stayed until 1972.
The division was a large force that played a key role in protecting areas near Saigon. They built bases, guarded supply lines, and participated in patrols to stop enemy attacks. Their presence was a major sign of Thai support for the democratic side in the conflict.
Life in the division was hard because of the intense heat and the dense jungle. The soldiers had to be very alert at all times to defend their camps. They are remembered for their professionalism and for the heavy toll they paid during the long years of fighting in Vietnam. They eventually returned home when Thailand decided to scale back its overseas involvement.
