History
Singapore sits along the Straits of Malacca, one of the busiest maritime trade routes on Earth. To protect these vital sea lanes during the Cold War, the Republic of Singapore Navy acquired six nimble Sea Wolf-class fast attack craft starting in the early 1970s.
The design came from German shipbuilder Lürssen, with subsequent vessels built directly at Singapore yards. Though small, these boats packed a heavy punch. They were equipped with rapid-fire deck guns and advanced anti-ship missiles, giving the young navy teeth against larger hostile warships.
