History
The Singapore Armed Forces Good Service Medal was established in the 1970s to honor citizen-soldiers and career military staff. Because Singapore relies on conscription to defend itself, this medal was designed to reward dedicated regular troops and operationally ready reservists.
Over the years, the criteria were codified to recognize regulars who achieve five years of honorable service and national servicemen who fulfill key operational milestones. It is one of the most widely worn and recognized ribbons in the armed forces.
