History
The No. 4 rifle was designed as a simpler, stronger version of the classic Lee-Enfield to help fight World War II. It featured a heavier barrel and easier-to-use aperture sights mounted near the rear of the receiver. Following the end of the global war, British colonial authorities issued these rifles across Pacific territories, including the Solomon Islands.
During the early years of the Cold War, the Solomon Islands Police Force carried the No. 4 rifle for ceremonial duties, border patrols, and rural security. It gave local constables a reliable weapon capable of operating in hot tropical climates with very little maintenance.
Even after modern automatic weapons emerged around the world, this tough bolt-action rifle remained in use for decades in remote island posts. Constables trained with it regularly, and it stood as a primary symbol of law and order well into the late Cold War era.
