History
In the late 1960s, British forces began withdrawing their aircraft squadrons from Singapore. To protect its own airspace during the Cold War, the newly formed air force acquired refurbished British Hawker Hunter jets, including interceptors and ground-strike versions.
The Hunter was praised by Singaporean pilots for its smooth handling and rugged airframe. It served as the backbone of Singapore air defense for more than twenty years, flying air patrols and training the first generations of local jet fighter pilots until retirement in the early 1990s.
