The Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot of Iraq

History

The Sukhoi Su-25 was built to survive being hit by ground fire while helping troops. It has heavy armor around the pilot's seat to keep them safe. It is very good at attacking tanks and trucks from the sky. Iraq first received these planes in the late 1980s to help them in long fights on the ground. They were used heavily during the war with Iran. The planes are known for being very simple to maintain and very rugged in bad weather. During the fight against ISIS, the Iraqi government brought in more Su-25s to help their army. They were important for hitting enemy targets that were hiding in buildings or in the desert. These planes are still kept in the Iraqi air force because they are so useful for ground missions.
