History

The 1973 October War Medal (Nut Harakat Tishreen 1973) was created in 1974 to honor Iraqi soldiers who rushed to the Golan Heights front in Syria. Iraq dispatched armored divisions and fighter jets to halt the counterattack during the conflict.

The medal features an evocative design showing an eagle, soldier silhouettes, and Arabic script marking the holy month of Ramadan. It hung from a ribbon matching the national colors.

This award was significant because it highlighted an expeditionary operation where Iraqi tanks engaged in heavy tank duels. Veterans who served in the armored corps wore it with great pride throughout their military careers.
