History

The 1948 Palestine War Medal (Nut Harakat Filastin 1948) was instituted by the Iraqi government in 1949. It was minted to recognize soldiers, airmen, and medical workers who deployed to Palestine during the first Arab-Israeli conflict.

Iraqi forces committed thousands of troops to the conflict, fighting notable actions in places like Jenin and Nablus. The medal featured an outline of the region surrounded by Arabic script, hanging from a green, white, and red ribbon.

The medal was proudly worn by royal army veterans for generations. It served as one of the first major foreign campaign medals awarded to Iraqi military personnel in large numbers.
