History

The North American F-86 Sabre entered frontline service in 1949 as one of the world's premier swept-wing jet fighters. It was designed to fly at speeds near the sound barrier and withstand high-stress dogfights.

During the Korean War, the Sabre clashed with Soviet-built MiG-15 fighters in an area nicknamed 'MiG Alley.' Allied pilots used the Sabre's advanced radar-ranging gunsight and better high-speed handling to win air superiority over the peninsula.

The Sabre served as the primary frontline fighter for the United States and numerous Western allies during the early Cold War, setting world speed records and proving the value of jet technology.
