History
Established in May 1942, the Order of the Patriotic War was created to reward brave actions and successful tactical leadership in the war against Axis powers. During World War II, the Soviet Union presented this medal to hundreds of allied soldiers, sailors, and pilots from Great Britain, the United States, France, and Yugoslavia.
Recipients included naval crews escorting perilous Arctic convoys to deliver essential supplies, as well as aviators providing cover over combat sectors. The award reflected mutual recognition between Eastern and Western Allied partners working toward joint victory.
