History
In the late 1960s, the Royal Malaysian Air Force purchased modified Canadian jet trainers named the Tebuan, which means 'Hornet' in Malay. This was a giant step forward because it brought jet strike capability to Malaysia during the Cold War.
While the plane trained new jet pilots, it was also rigged to carry bombs, rockets, and machine guns. Malaysian squadrons flew the Tebuan to protect the country's borders and guard distant coasts. It retired in the 1980s after training a full generation of military pilots.
