History
The Malaysian government instituted this medal in the late 20th century to recognize troops deployed on international peacekeeping operations under the blue flag of the United Nations. Malaysia has a proud history of sending peacekeepers abroad dating back to the Congo in 1960.
Throughout conflicts in Somalia, Bosnia, Cambodia, and Lebanon, Malaysian soldiers earned high praise for helping civilians and keeping peace. This national medal highlights their specialized training and willingness to serve far from home.
It is worn proudly by modern Malaysian soldiers alongside official medals issued directly by the United Nations.
