History

The SA80, also known as the L85, was introduced in the 1980s to replace older rifles. Its design is called bullpup, which means the magazine is tucked behind the trigger area. This allows the rifle to be short but still have a long barrel for accuracy. At first, soldiers had some trouble with the gun jamming in sandy places like deserts. Because of this, the design was updated into the A2 and later A3 versions to make it much tougher and more reliable. Today, it is used by almost every soldier in the British Army and is known for being very accurate even at long distances. It remains the symbol of the modern British infantryman.
