History
The 25-pounder was the primary field artillery piece used by New Zealand artillery units for decades. Designed with a circular firing platform, gunners could quickly spin the entire carriage around in any direction to aim at new targets. New Zealand gunners became famous for their skill with the 25-pounder at battles like El Alamein in Egypt. Decades later, New Zealand’s 161 Battery deployed the same dependable gun design to provide direct fire support during the Korean War. The weapon was well-liked because it could fire explosive shells high over hills or shoot flat directly at charging enemy tanks.
