History

During World War II, Spain arranged an agreement to manufacture the German Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter plane locally. However, obtaining the original German engines proved impossible after the war ended, leaving Spanish engineers to adapt the airframe. Spanish designers successfully mated the aircraft with a British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, creating the HA-1112 Buchon. The fighter served faithfully in the Spanish Air Force through the 1950s and into the 1960s during the Cold War. It later gained worldwide fame when many were used to play German planes in classic aviation films.
