History

The Argentine Air Force and Navy both flew the American-made A-4 Skyhawk during the 1982 war. Even though it was an older plane, its small size and agility made it very effective.

Pilots flew just feet above the ocean water to dodge enemy missiles and radar screens. They dropped conventional iron bombs directly on British warships inside San Carlos Water and surrounding bays.

Many Skyhawks were lost to British fighters and anti-aircraft guns, but their bold attacks sank several British ships, including the frigates Ardent and Antelope.
