History
The Order of Aeronautical Merit was instituted in the mid-20th century to recognize exceptional achievements within the Argentine Air Force. It provided aviation personnel with an honor honoring the unique skills and hazards of flight.
It was created to reward outstanding piloting, aeronautical engineering, flight safety, and high-level command. The decoration is divided into multiple ranks to suit different tiers of military leadership.
During and after the 1982 air battles, this order celebrated the courage and innovation shown by Argentine pilots and ground crews. Today, it remains the highest order awarded by the Argentine Air Force.
