History
The Medal of Valour in Combat was authorized by Argentine national legislation in 1982. It was created alongside other battle awards to recognize fighters who showed remarkable personal courage.
It sits directly below the Cross to the Heroic Valour in Combat. It fills an important role for recognizing brave battlefield actions that, while extraordinary, did not quite meet the criteria for the country's highest cross.
The medal was awarded primarily to Argentine troops who fought in the South Atlantic in 1982. It remains on the official register of honors for combat courage in any future conflicts.
