History

Argentina purchased Super Étendard jets from France shortly before the Falklands War began in 1982. When the war started, Argentine naval pilots flew these fast strike jets over the icy ocean to locate British warships.

During missions, the jets flew extremely low over the waves so radar could not spot them easily. Once close enough, they zoomed up, locked onto target ships, fired their Exocet missiles, and quickly flew back to the mainland.

These planes achieved major hits during the war, including strikes that led to the sinking of the destroyer HMS Sheffield and the cargo ship Atlantic Conveyor.
