History
The T-54 and its updated twin, the T-55, were designed to replace World War II armor with a modern battle tank. The tank had a dome-shaped turret that was hard for enemies to spot and hit. It was armed with a strong 100mm rifled cannon that could fire armor-piercing shells.
This tank series became the most produced tank family in world history, with roughly 100,000 machines built. The Soviet Union stationed thousands across Europe throughout the Cold War. North Vietnamese units also drove these tanks into battle during the later stages of the Vietnam War.
