History
The PPSh-41 was designed in the Soviet Union during World War II. It was made from stamped metal parts, which made it quick and cheap to build in huge numbers for fighting in towns and trenches.
The Soviet Union gave large stockpiles of these guns to North Korea before the Korean War. North Korean soldiers liked it because it could spray hundreds of pistol bullets in close-range forest and hill fighting.
United Nations troops called the weapon the 'burp gun' because of its loud, buzzing sound. Even after the war ended, North Korea kept building its own local copies, called the Type 49.
