Medals & Awards

History
The Order of Freedom and Independence was instituted on July 7, 1951, during the Korean War. The leadership created this award to recognize officers and commanders who organized successful military operations. It was split into First Class and Second Class.
The First Class was intended for general officers and division commanders who led large formations to victory. The Second Class was awarded to field-grade officers who successfully led regiments, battalions, or aviation squadrons into combat.
The order helped establish a clear command hierarchy and closely resembled Soviet command awards like the Order of Suvorov and Order of Kutuzov. It is still awarded for superior defense leadership and military preparedness.
