History
Austria wanted a light armored vehicle that could hide easily and climb steep alpine roads during the Cold War. Saurer-Werk developed the SK-105 Kürassier using the chassis of a troop carrier and a special tilting turret.
The tank featured a revolver-style autoloader that let the three-person crew fire quickly without needing a human loader. Its powerful main gun could punch holes in heavier enemy armor.
While neutral Austria used it to protect its borders from potential invasions during the Cold War, several were exported to other countries and saw action in regional conflicts overseas.
