History
Built during World War II as an emergency fleet destroyer, the ship was originally an English vessel named HMS Scourge before joining the Royal Netherlands Navy in 1946 as HNLMS Evertsen. The swift warship was outfitted with powerful guns and torpedoes to fight on the open seas.
In 1950, Evertsen was sent to fight alongside United Nations forces in the Korean War. The destroyer patrolled ocean coastlines, screened large aircraft carriers, and fired heavy shells against enemy shore positions to help ground troops push forward.
