History
The DAF YP-408 was created by the famous Dutch car manufacturer DAF during the early 1960s. The Netherlands needed a fast, reliable vehicle that could move foot soldiers over paved roads and grassy fields. It had eight big wheels to help it drive over rough ground.
Throughout the Cold War, the Royal Netherlands Army placed hundreds of these carriers along NATO's front lines in Europe. Dutch troops stood ready to counter any hostile moves by opposing armies. It was praised for being quiet and simple to maintain.
