History
During World War I, Italy was one of the first countries to realize that large airplanes could bomb enemy targets far behind front lines. Engineer Gianni Caproni designed this large biplane with three engines to carry heavy loads.
The Ca.3 had two engines pulling the plane forward and one in the back pushing it along. Italian pilots flew dangerous bombing raids high across the snowy Alps against Austro-Hungarian bases and railroad lines.
It was considered one of the most successful Allied heavy bombers of the Great War and was also flown by French and American aviators.
