History
The Bofors 40mm anti-aircraft gun was originally developed in Sweden and used widely during World War II. Venezuela adopted it to protect military bases, harbors, and army columns during the Cold War.
Venezuelan soldiers loaded shells into the top of the gun using four-round clips, allowing it to fire steadily without jamming. Crews aimed with optical sights or linked radar directors to track fast-moving targets.
The weapon remained a trusted air-defense system in Venezuelan inventory for decades. It guarded valuable oil installations and naval ports against low-flying threats.
