Medals & Awards

History
The Military Order of National Defense was established in 1971 to honor service members who contributed to joint operations across all branches. Prior awards were often focused on a single service branch like the army or navy. This medal was designed by defense planners to encourage unity, joint command skills, and combined defensive readiness.
Throughout the late twentieth century and into the twenty-first century, the decoration recognized leaders who improved national communications, intelligence networks, and homeland defense. It is bestowed by the Ministry of Defense upon recommendation of the President. It remains one of the premier joint defense honors in Venezuela.
