History
The Order of Army Merit was created during the mid-twentieth century modernization of Venezuela's armed forces. The goal was to establish a special order specifically reserved for army personnel of all ranks who demonstrated great virtue. It encouraged discipline, high educational achievement, and technical skill.
Over the years, the order was awarded to soldiers involved in internal security, border patrols, and specialized training programs. It is divided into classes that allow recognition of enlisted personnel as well as junior and senior officers. It continues to be actively awarded on significant military holidays such as Army Day.
