Historia
Singapur leży wzdłuż Cieśniny Malakka, jednej z najbardziej ruchliwych tras handlu morskiego na świecie. Aby chronić te ważne szlaki morskie podczas zimnej wojny, marynarka wojenna Republiki Singapuru zakupiła sześć zwinnych szybkich okrętów uderzeniowych klasy Sea Wolf, począwszy od początku lat 70. XX wieku.
Projekt pochodził od niemieckiej stoczni Lürssen, a kolejne jednostki budowano bezpośrednio w singapurskich stoczniach. Mimo niewielkich rozmiarów łodzie te miały dużą siłę rażenia. Były wyposażone w szybkostrzelne działa pokładowe oraz nowoczesne pociski przeciwokrętowe, co zapewniało młodej marynarce skuteczną obronę przeciwko większym wrogim okrętom wojennym.
