Historia
RFN stworzyło Marder pod koniec lat 60., aby wspierać czołgi Leopard na linii frontu. Poprzednie transportery były słabo opancerzone, ale Marder został zbudowany jako prawdziwy bojowy wóz piechoty z grubym przednim pancerzem, który mógł zatrzymać wrogie pociski.
