History
In 1991, King Fahd bin Abdulaziz authorized the Saudi Kuwait Liberation Medal following the successful conclusion of Operation Desert Storm. When Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait in August 1990, Saudi Arabia welcomed a massive international coalition to guard its borders and free Kuwait.
The medal was manufactured in large quantities, with high-quality batches produced by European makers such as Huguenin in Switzerland. It features the national emblem of crossed swords and a palm tree surrounded by a circular wreath and the crest of the Kingdom.
Hundreds of thousands of allied soldiers from the United States, Britain, France, and Arab nations received permission from their governments to wear this award. It remains one of the most widely recognized international coalition awards in modern military history.
