History
Sultan Abdul Hamid II created the Iftikhar Sanayi Medal in 1891. While originally instituted to celebrate manufacturing, fine arts, and industry, its role expanded heavily during early 20th century military mobilizations.
As the Ottoman Empire entered modern mechanized warfare, the state used the medal to honor army mechanics, fortress engineers, railway operators, and weapons manufacturers. It was struck in gold and silver grades.
During World War I, logistical support and train transport across vast deserts were critical to army operations. Technical military specialists who kept artillery working and supply lines open received this decoration. It was phased out after 1922.
