History
The Gold Cross was created in 1941 to provide a decoration comparable to the American Silver Star. It recognized gallantry in action that was distinct and brave but below the level required for the Distinguished Conduct Star.
Throughout the defense of Bataan and Corregidor in World War II, many Philippine and joint forces earned this medal. In modern times, it is often awarded to infantry, pilots, and naval commandos who risk their lives in frontline tactical engagements.
