History
In 1961, the North Vietnamese government established the Glorious Fighter Order to honor long-serving soldiers who built up the regular armed forces. The country wanted a way to reward veterans who stood guard year after year as tensions mounted with South Vietnam and the United States.
The award was separated into three classes based on time in uniform and overall merit during service. Soldiers who stayed loyal, maintained high discipline, and performed well during drills and skirmishes were nominated by their units.
This order became one of the standard ways North Vietnam celebrated career soldiers. After the country was unified in the 1970s, it remained an active part of the military honours system.
