History
The Distinguished Conduct Star was established in 1939 as the second-highest combat decoration for the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It was patterned closely after the United States Army's Distinguished Service Cross. The award was designed to recognize acts of profound heroism that did not quite meet the criteria for the Medal of Valor.
During World War II, Filipino soldiers and guerrilla fighters earned this award while resisting invading forces. Today, it remains an essential decoration for frontline troops fighting insurgencies and counter-terrorism missions across the archipelago.
