History
Created during the mid-20th century, the Bronze Cross Medal was created to fill an important role: honoring heroism outside of direct combat. Service members who rescue people during typhoons or enter burning vehicles to pull comrades out needed proper recognition.
The medal has seen extensive use throughout the disaster-prone Philippine islands. Troops deployed to aid civilians during earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and devastating storms often receive this award.
