History
The Russian Imperial Army began long ago. It grew into a massive force that helped protect the lands of the Tsar. It was one of the largest armies in the world during the early 1900s.
During World War I, the army fought against Germany and its partners. Soldiers faced many hardships on the Eastern Front. They fought in difficult terrain and in cold weather for years.
Internal trouble in Russia made things hard for the army. In 1917, the Russian Revolution changed everything. The old military system collapsed as the country entered a time of great change and civil war. By the time the Soviet Union was formed, the old Imperial Army had completely ended its service.
