History
The Royal Netherlands Navy has a long history of protecting trade and Dutch territories. It was a well-respected force that maintained ships around the world for many years.
When Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940, part of the navy escaped to Britain. From there, they continued the fight as part of the Allied forces for the rest of the war.
Dutch sailors fought bravely in the Pacific against the Japanese and in the Atlantic to keep supply lines open for the Allies. Their efforts were vital for protecting shipments.
After the war, the navy helped rebuild the nation and participated in modern global security. Today, it remains a key part of the Dutch defense and international cooperation.
