History
The 921st Fighter Regiment was formed in early 1964. It was the very first jet fighter unit in the North Vietnamese Air Force. The pilots were trained in foreign countries to fly the Soviet-made MiG-17 and MiG-21 planes. Their main job was to protect the skies of North Vietnam from attacks.
During the Vietnam War, the unit became known for its bold tactics. Even though they had fewer planes than the American forces, they used surprise attacks to defend their territory. Many pilots from this unit became famous for their skill in air combat. They worked closely with radar and anti-aircraft teams on the ground to stay safe.
The regiment remained a key part of the military after the war ended. They continued to upgrade their jets and practice new flying techniques. Today, the unit is still remembered as a symbol of early North Vietnamese air power. It helped set the standard for how the country trained its future pilots and defended its borders.
