History
The Kommando Spezialkraefte, often called the KSK, was formed in 1996 to give Germany a professional special forces group. Before this, Germany did not have a dedicated unit like the American Green Berets. The soldiers in the KSK are chosen through a very difficult selection process that lasts for many months. They train in swimming, parachuting, survival, and combat to be ready for any emergency. The KSK operates in small teams that can go deep behind enemy lines. Their existence was kept secret for some time after they were first formed. They are known for being able to handle hostage rescues, search for dangerous individuals, and gather secret information. Because they do such dangerous work, their training is considered the hardest in the entire German military. They are highly respected by other countries' special forces.
