History
The Italian armed forces were reorganized under the fascist government in the early 20th century. Italy aimed to build a new empire around the Mediterranean Sea.
During World War II, Italy fought alongside Germany. Their military operated across North Africa, the Balkans, and the Soviet Union, facing many difficult supply and tactical problems.
In 1943, the government of Italy changed sides and signed an armistice with the Allies. Many Italian soldiers then fought against their former German allies for the rest of the war.
After the war, Italy rebuilt its military under a new democratic system. Today, these forces are a part of NATO and work to keep peace in various parts of the world.
