History

Following World War II, Norway needed to rebuild its armored ground units to face potential new threats. Through United States military assistance programs, the Norwegian Army received M24 Chaffee light tanks to defend vital strategic areas like northern air bases.

The tank was well liked for its lighter weight, which allowed it to cross weak bridges and maneuver on snowy mountain roads. Norway later updated these hulls in the 1970s with modern cannons and diesel engines to keep them combat-ready until the Cold War neared its end.
