History
Greece bought PZL P.24 fighters from Poland in the late 1930s to modernize its small air force. The airplane featured high wings bent like a seagull's wings, which gave pilots a great view above them.
When foreign forces invaded in the autumn of 1940, these airplanes took off to battle larger enemy formations. Brave Greek pilots scored many air victories against modern Italian bombers and fighters in tough dogfights.
Although it was sturdy and easy to turn, spare parts ran low as the fighting raged on. The aircraft fought until nearly all planes were damaged or worn out, earning high respect for its tough defense.
