History
Originally developed in Denmark, the Madsen was one of the very first light machine guns used by armies around the world. Norway purchased these weapons to give small units automatic firepower that a single team could carry across rough mountains.
During the 1940 Norwegian campaign of World War II, army units used the Madsen heavily against invading German troops. Its sturdy construction made it a reliable defensive weapon in freezing weather, and it remained in inventory through the early Cold War era.
