The M1911 of United States

History

The M1911 was invented by John Browning and accepted into the United States military in 1911. American soldiers first carried it during World War I, where it earned praise for stopping power and rugged reliability in muddy conditions. It quickly became the standard sidearm for officers and troops across every branch.

During World War II and the Korean War, millions more were manufactured to equip troops across Europe and the Pacific. Soldiers trusted the heavy steel handgun because it rarely jammed even in extreme dirt, rain, or cold weather. It also saw heavy use during the Vietnam War in thick jungle fighting.

The pistol remained the standard military sidearm until the late Cold War era when newer designs replaced it. Today, it stands as one of the longest-serving firearms in United States military history.
