History
The M14 rifle was created in the United States during the late 1950s to replace older World War II rifles. It fired a large cartridge capable of hitting distant targets with tremendous stopping power. It featured a wooden stock, a twenty-round magazine, and strong iron sights.
Ethiopia received large shipments of M14 rifles from the United States during military aid programs in the Cold War. Ethiopian soldiers, including imperial guard units and infantry battalions, carried the weapon as their standard service rifle. It proved very durable in diverse environments, from rocky highlands to arid lowlands.
