History
The Republic F-84G Thunderjet was the very first combat jet aircraft adopted by the Hellenic Air Force. Introduced in the early 1950s, it brought exciting jet engine technology to pilots who previously flew propeller planes.
Greece used these swept-wing jets to patrol skies and practice ground attacks with rockets and bombs. Greek pilots also formed skilled aerobatic flight teams with the Thunderjet, showing off incredible flying maneuvers over major cities.
This jet airplane played an important role in deterring aggression during the Cold War. It helped train a whole generation of Greek jet fighter pilots before being replaced by faster supersonic aircraft.
