History
As a founding member of NATO, Norway shared a direct northern border with the Soviet Union during the Cold War. To guard this vast Arctic border against long-range bombers, the Royal Norwegian Air Force acquired F-86K Sabre jet interceptors.
The F-86K was equipped with a radome on its nose, giving pilots radar tracking capability at night and in heavy clouds. These jets maintained alert status from northern bases, intercepting unknown aircraft and patrolling the Norwegian Sea until replaced by newer supersonic jets.
